Q: We want to set an example to our children by running an environmentally friendly setting – where can I get some advice?
A:
Local Authorities can be contacted for the following information: • The Road Safety Officer can advise on safe routes to school and a walking bus scheme. • Waste management or recycling department can provide information on recycling schemes. • Countryside or tourism department-for parks, nature reserves and other places to visit. Other useful organisations may include: • Centre for Alternative Technology www.cat.org.uk 01654 705950 • Learning Through Landscapes www.ltl.org.uk • The Fairtrade Foundation www.fairtrade.org.uk • Keep Wales Tidy www.keepwalestidy.org • National Museum of Wales, Cardiff www.museumwales.ac.uk It may also be worthwhile to be aware of environmental events such as: • Wales Biodiversity Week www.biodiversitywales.org.uk • World Environment Day www.unep.org/wed/2007/english/ • National Tree Week www.treecouncil.org.uk • World Day for Water www.unesco.org/water Recycled resources can be bought from your local ‘scrap store’ or ‘resource centre’ and children and parents can be encouraged to collect materials.
