The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006 followed as a response to a key recommendation from the Bichard Inquiry for a registration scheme which prevents those who are considered to be unsuitable, from gaining access to children or vulnerable adults through their work. It allowed for the setting up of the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) and the implementation of an improved Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS), where those who are known to be unsuitable are barred from working with children and/or vulnerable adults at the earliest possible opportunity.

After the election......what next? We are stuck with them for 5 years! So how can they help your club?
Did any of the candidates visit your club in the build-up to the election? If they did..................then don't forget to keep in touch with them invite them to things and let them know what you are doing.
If you did not have time to invite the candidates in before the election then please consider writing to them and congratulating them and invite them in to the club. It does not matter what 'electoral colour' they are they need to see at first hand the important role you are playing in the economy of Wales. They need to understand what out of school childcare clubs are about and how you support working parents and the welsh economy and therefore also support the child poverty agenda.
Your MP needs to talk to people at the coal face and need to hear from you the trials and tribulations or the wonders and fantastic outcomes of out of school childcare clubs. How do the people in their constituencies cope with combining childcare and work? Are tax credits working for them in the clubs? What help could out of school childcare clubs need to help them support working parents and keeping Wales working? So why not consider, or get your management committee to consider, writing to the MP, congratulate them on their election and invite them to arrange a visit to meet the children and the parents in their constituency or even to come to visit so that the children can ask their MP exactly what they do and what effect it has on them.
Children & Young People's University Cymru
The value of activities children and young people participate in out of school childcare clubs could be recognised, rewarded and celebrated by Children & Young People’s University Cymru. The Children’s University in Wales awards credits to children and young people who participate in activities outside normal school hours.
Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs has worked with Children & Young People’s University Cymru at a national level to register its 5 zone packs: Nature Zone, Culture Zone; Play Zone; Youth Zone; Marketing Zone (available free on the members area of our website).
For guidance on how your clubs can be involved in this exciting, national initiative and how children can gain nationally recognised credits for participating in zone pack activities download the introduction and guidance for each pack in the downloads section.
