Ramadan – 22nd of March – 21th of April 2023

Ramadan is the Arabic name for the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims. It is marked by a period of fasting and falls on a different date every year. This year Ramadan started on the evening of Wednesday 22 March and will finish on the evening of Friday 21 April. Muslims have an early morning meal before dawn, known as suhoor or sehri, and do not eat or drink again until after sunset for the evening meal, known as iftar or fitoor. Easter Sunday – 9th April 2023

The date of Easter Sunday varies from year to year and is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon, on or after 21 March. Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar and Easter Sunday celebrates Jesus rising from the dead, three days after he was executed. The first day of the Holy Week is Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday remembers the Last Supper and Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. Many Christians and cultural Christians will eat easter eggs – eggs symbolise new life and therefore, the resurrection of Jesus. To find out more click here.
