Sky Play, The Out of School Way is aimed at inspiring children aged 4-14 years old to engage with STEM subjects in a fun way learning through play. The project will start in April 2014 and will bring a range of activities that involve space to Out of School Childcare Clubs across Wales.
Delivering STEM activities in Out of School childcare clubs can help learners see the relevance it has in the modern world. It allows children and playworkers (the staff in the clubs who work with the children) to use activities which will allow them to explore, investigate and discover STEM subjects in an exciting/stimulating, learning through play environment, away from the school timetable or prescribed curriculum.
The activities will be fun, practical, interactive, ‘short’ experiences children freely choose.
It will not replace STEM learning in schools but supports understanding that science is all around rather than something you learn in the classroom.
The project is funded by the Science Technologies Funding Council and will last a year during which we will develop the activities, run a train the trainer for Clybiau Training staff, 2 Playworker training events and pilot in 20 clubs across South Wales.
Watch out for information on how to book on what will be an exciting CPD opportunity.
