Holiday Hunger Report
During July 2019, Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs was allocated funds as part of the ‘Holiday Hunger Pilot’, through the All Wales Play Opportunity Grant 2019-20. The purpose of the funding was to decrease holiday hunger, improve nutrition for children and young people along with providing rich play opportunities, improving physical activity, mental health and increasing socialisation. This was achieved through supporting 3 Care Inspectorate Wales Registered Out of School Childcare Clubs across Wales to offer means-tested Fully Funded Places within their Clubs during Summer and October half term, 2019.
The Project had a multitude of successful outcomes for the settings, the children and parents/carers, which can be found within our report. Our findings demonstrate that offering means tested fully funded places within registered Out of School Childcare Clubs offers value for money, targeted support, reduced stigma, quality play experiences for children, opportunities to learn new skills and support health and wellbeing, and sustainability for valuable community businesses. We hope that the success of this pilot will lead to further funding in future years to continue and extend the reach of these benefits.
