New Stepping Out Policy: Furlough Staff

The outbreak of Covid-19 is likely to have had an impact on the health and wellbeing of many employees. Whilst those staff members who continue to work (be it homeworking, or continuing to work within a Setting to provide Childcare for critical workers and vulnerable children) should still be receiving supervisions with their Line Managers during this period (in person or remotely), it is important to consider the health and wellbeing of staff members who have been furloughed too. We are all different, and while some may welcome being furloughed to allow them to carry out caring responsibilities, it may lead others to feel demotivated, undervalued, isolated and concerned about their future job role.

One way in which Employers and Line Managers can support the health and wellbeing of their furloughed employees, is by continuing regular communication, facilitating two way discussion to enable employees to remain informed but also to provide them with an opportunity to feedback about their health and wellbeing, including their concerns and queries.

Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs has developed a useful template to support communication with furloughed employees, which is now available within the Stepping Out Guide on the members area of our website. The template is also being sent to all members via email.
