Re-Opening your Setting following the Covid 19 Lockdown
[12/06/2020]

Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs has developed some useful resources and guides to support Out of School Childcare Clubs to plan and re-open following the COVID-19 lockdown.

We understand your concerns and nervousness regarding opening your setting, the overriding priority is to keep children, staff and parents/carers safe. We hope these resources will support you in thinking about the measures that need to be put into place prior to your setting opening. Please note that all templates should be amended for your specific circumstances, and that you will need to ensure that you keep them updated with any future changes to guidance. We will be keeping member clubs informed of any changes to guidance via email.

Are you planning on asking your parents when they are going to use your setting? We have developed a parent questionnaire for you, so you can ascertain potential places take up when planning to re-open.

You will need a policy to address how you will be preparing to re-open, and addressing changes to key policies and procedures whilst social distancing guidelines are in place. This policy will help you to consider the actions required prior to re-opening, as well as your day to day practice. We have created a template Re-Opening Following Temporary Closure (COVID-19) Policy which is available here

You will need to complete a risk assessment prior to opening, and on a continual basis to reflect any changes to guidance or legislation. We have created a template risk assessment with suggested risks that are likely to need to be considered in light of COVID-19 here You will also find the Public Health Wales: All Wales Infection Prevention and Control Audit Tool for Childcare and Education Settings in Wales (2019) here.

You will need to implement a revised cleaning rota, considering communal areas and frequently used areas, outlining who is responsible for cleaning and how frequently cleaning will need to occur. A template rota can be found here

Social distancing guidelines will have an impact on your play environment and activity plan. However, play remains essential for children’s health and well-being. We have developed a useful guide for how to support play within social distancing guidelines here.

Supporting the mental health of children re-entering your Club will be essential. We have written a guide that will support you to consider ways of promoting children’s mental health here

Reviewing your financial plan and funding needs will be an essential part of preparing to re-open. Specific funding guides and support will be available shortly via our website, with some templates available for members only.

Marketing will be essential to support your ongoing sustainability. We are in the process of developing further support for members to market their Out of School Childcare Clubs. Keep an eye on our website and members area for further information soon!
