Awareness Days

National Nestbox Week – from Tuesday 14th of February 2023

Since 1997 National Nestbox Week has been celebrated from the 14th of February. It encourages people to make and put up more nestboxes for birds either in their gardens or local areas. Due to various factors, British birds need more holes to nest and nestboxes can help! For more information on how to create a nestbox or why nestboxes are important visit the website.

Random Acts of Kindness Day – Friday 17th of February 2023

The Random Acts of Kindness Day strives to make kindness the norm at home, school, and work. The dedicated website is full of ideas on how you can do a random act of kindness and make someone’s day. Maybe it’s treating yourself to something you love, raking your neighbours leaves or complimenting someone you don’t know. Remember that being kind to yourself and others doesn’t have to cost the earth, and can have a very positive impact on someone’s day.

Mahashivaratri – Saturday 18th of February 2023

Mahashivratri (also known as Shivaratri) is a Hindu festival dedicated to Shiva, who destroys the universe, one of the deities of the Hindu Trinity. Most Hindu ceremonies are celebrated during the day, but Mahashivrati is celebrated at night. Hindu devotees of Shiva often fast on this day and stay up all night, usually at a place of worship. To find out more the BBC has information on how the festival is celebrated.
