Awareness Days

World Refugee Day 2023 is on June 20th. It is an international day of awareness coordinated by the United Nations to show support for refugees forced from their homes by violence. This year the theme is compassion.

A refugee is someone who has had to leave their home and country, as they are unable to stay. World Refugee Day was launched in 2000 by the United Nations General Assembly. It also coincides with World Refugee Week 20th-26th June.

World Refugee day is a occasion to build empathy and understanding and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced from their home country.

June 18 – 25, 2023 – Water Safety Week

Water Safety Week, which is also known as Drowning Prevention Week, is a summer water safety campaign across the UK and Ireland that happens every year.  The main goal of Water Safety Week is to teach people the necessary skills and knowledge that they need to be safe and have fun in the water.

June 21, 2023 – Longest Day of Summer! (Summer Solstice)

The Longest Day (Summer Solstice) is observed on either June 20, 21, or 22, but this year, it falls on June 21. The timing shifts because it depends on when the Sun reaches its northernmost point from the celestial equator. However, it signifies the beginning of the sunny summer season. It’s not too late to begin plans for outdoor activities to enjoy the sun while you can.
