Funding Opportunities
We are delighted to share with you some funding opportunities. Don’t forget that we can support you in completing applications, so please get in touch if you need our help!
Garfield Weston Foundation
The Garfield Weston Foundation is one of the largest grant-making trusts in the UK. They provide grants to UK Registered Charities and Schools for Capital Costs, Revenue/Core Costs and Project Costs. Eligible organisations are invited to apply for projects in the following areas:
- Welfare
- Youth
- Community
- Arts
- Faith
- Environment
- Education
- Health
- Museums
- Heritage
The Foundation donates around £60 million per year, and there are two levels of funding to apply for:
-
- Regular grants up to £100,000
- Major grants of £100,000 or more (your organisation’s turnover should be over £1 million to apply for major grants)
Although it is possible to apply for up to £100,000 on the regular grant programme, the Foundation regularly gives grants for less than £20,000. In the last financial year, the Foundation gave several grants of £500, so if you have a project in one of their areas of interest but are a small charity, it is certainly worth applying.
Applications for the regular grant programme can be made at any time via the website, but it is a good idea to read the grant guidance thoroughly before starting your application. Once you’ve made your application, it will normally take around four months to receive a decision.
With the lighter evenings and warmer days finally here, why not take the opportunity to have an event in your setting either just for the children or a family or community event. These can be a great way to raise funds for settings as well as to promote the work you do and the importance of play.
- Why not plan an end of term sleepover?
- An evening BBQ and bounce event?
- Summer talent show?
- Campfire and storytelling evening…
- The opportunities are endless
Why not ask the children and staff what they might like to do, and a top tip for first time events…keep it simple and achievable.
And don’t forget, settings that are registered charities could have any fundraising match funded by parents work places if these schemes are available…always worth an ask.
Sports Wales Be Active Wales Fund
The Be Active Wales Fund is a grant, funded by the National Lottery, that supports sports clubs and community organisations across Wales to improve access to physical activity. It offers grants from £300 to £50,000 to support projects that promote equality, sustainability and innovation in sport.
All not-for-profit sport clubs or organisations in Wales can apply, regardless of their size or location, given your club has all the right funding conditions and requirements.
